A Standout Stay at Barceló Maya Grand Resort: A Wedding Planner’s Perspective
By: Tracey Manailescu, co-founder and Vice President of WPIC Inc.
There are resort experiences that meet expectations, and then there are those that genuinely surprise you. Our recent stay at Barceló Maya Grand Resort, specifically in the newest Riviera section, was firmly the latter.
From the moment we arrived, the attention to detail was impossible to miss. The Riviera section is modern, spacious, and impeccably maintained. In fact, we found ourselves joking all week that every time we turned around, someone was polishing, sweeping, or refreshing the space. That level of care does not go unnoticed, especially for wedding professionals who are constantly evaluating guest experience.
Our oceanfront suites were expansive and beautifully designed, offering both comfort and that elevated wow factor couples are looking for in a destination wedding stay. Waking up to those views each morning set the tone for everything else.
The pools felt endless and inviting, with thoughtful design that allows for both lively group moments and quiet relaxation. Whether for a welcome party atmosphere or a calm post-wedding day, there are options to suit every mood.
Dining That Delivers and Then Some
The culinary experience exceeded expectations across the board. Two standouts for me were the Japanese and Peruvian fusion restaurant, which brought a creative and fresh approach to flavour, and the French restaurant, which delivered a refined dining experience that many couples love incorporating into their wedding week.
Beyond the Expected: Amenities That Truly Impress
What sets this resort complex apart is the sheer scope of what is available, not just for couples, but for their guests as well.
During an in-depth site visit across all six properties, we toured the entire complex by golf cart and were genuinely impressed by the variety of amenities available.
There is a full-service spa, and when you are in the premium category you receive one hour of hydrotherapy daily. There is also a haunted house and an escape room, which add a fun and unexpected element for groups. The property features a shopping village, a casino, and even a surf rider experience. There is also a Catholic church with mass available on site.
Families are well taken care of with expansive kids’ areas and even a dedicated spa experience designed just for them.
Each resort has its own theatre, and guests can travel easily between properties using the double decker buses that arrive every twenty minutes.
The Heart of It All: The Wedding Team
What truly made this experience stand out was the onsite wedding coordination team led by the incredible Simona Gigli and Ana Rocio Recinas.
They are creative, collaborative, and genuinely invested in crafting exceptional experiences for their couples. What stood out most was their openness, not just to ideas, but to partnership. They welcomed conversations about working alongside off-site planners and vendors, and their focus was clear. They want to do whatever it takes to create meaningful and memorable weddings.
During our working sessions together, we were captivated by their ideas. Thoughtful and unique touches came forward effortlessly, reinforcing just how passionate this team is about what they do.
Final Thoughts
Leaving Barceló Maya Grand Resort was not easy. Not just because of the beautiful setting, but because of the people we met. The dedicated professionals here are elevating the wedding experience for every couple who chooses this destination.
For couples considering a destination wedding here, you are in very good hands.
Thank you for a wonderful week!
