What first inspired you to become a wedding planner, and how has your definition of a “perfect wedding” evolved since you started?
I was initially drawn to wedding planning because I loved the idea of creating experiences that people would remember forever. I’ve always been passionate about bringing people together, creating meaningful moments, and making others feel cared for. Weddings combine all of those things in such a powerful way. Early on, I think I viewed the “perfect wedding” through a more traditional lens, with flawless timelines, beautiful décor, and every detail executed exactly as planned.
Fifteen years later, my definition has completely evolved. To me now, a perfect wedding is one where the couple feels fully present, genuinely connected, and able to soak in every moment without stress or pressure. It’s not about perfection in the literal sense. It’s about emotion, atmosphere, and authenticity. Some of the most unforgettable weddings I’ve planned weren’t the most extravagant; they were the ones where the couple stayed true to themselves and their guests felt that love in every part of the celebration.
When you reflect on your most memorable celebrations, what is the one moment that consistently reminds you why you do this work?
It’s always the quiet, emotional moments in between everything else. Feeling the emotion as I stand beside one partner as the other starts walking down the aisle towards them, standing as beside a couple as they are getting excited before being announced into their reception, a parent squeezing my hand with tears in their eyes, or hearing a couple say, “We were actually able to enjoy our wedding because we trusted you completely.”
Those are the moments that remind me why I do this work. Behind every timeline, seating chart, and logistical detail is something incredibly meaningful… two people starting a new chapter surrounded by the people they love most. Being trusted with that is something I never take lightly.
How do you approach creating weddings that feel deeply personal and authentic to each couple, rather than following trends or formulas?
I always start by getting to know my couples beyond the wedding itself. I want to understand who they are together, how they met, what matters most to them, how they want their guests to feel, and what kind of memories they want to create. That foundation becomes the driving force behind every decision we make.
Trends can absolutely be inspiring, but I never want a wedding to feel like it was designed for social media instead of for the couple themselves. The most impactful weddings are the ones that feel intentional and emotionally connected to the people at the centre of them. Sometimes that comes through in the design, sometimes through cultural traditions, family touches, guest experience, or even the overall energy of the day. My goal is always to create a celebration that feels unmistakably them.
What has been one of the most challenging situations you’ve faced on a wedding day, and how did it shape your approach to planning and client care moving forward?
One of the biggest lessons this industry teaches you is that no matter how carefully you plan, unexpected things can happen. Over the years, I’ve navigated everything from extreme weather and major vendor issues to last-minute logistical changes that could have completely shifted the tone of a wedding day. Most recently, some destination wedding challenging situations such as: Hurricane Melissa hitting Jamaica 1 week before a wedding then 2 months later a storm causing the cancelling of a wedding groups flight to Mexico.
What those experiences taught me is that preparation is only part of the job. The real value of a planner is staying calm, adaptable, knowledgeable and solution-focused under pressure. Couples feed off our energy. If we remain grounded and confident, it allows them to stay present and enjoy their day even when challenges arise behind the scenes.
It also reinforced how important communication, trust, and emotional support are throughout the planning process. Clients aren’t just hiring someone to organize details; they’re hiring someone to advocate for them, guide them, and protect their experience from start to finish.
In your view, what is the most overlooked element that truly elevates a wedding from beautiful to unforgettable?
Guest experience.
People will always remember how a wedding made them feel. Beautiful florals and stunning décor absolutely enhance a celebration, but the weddings that truly stay with guests are the ones where they had a great time and felt welcomed, connected, emotionally engaged, and genuinely taken care of.
That can come from thoughtful flow throughout the evening, meaningful personal touches, incredible energy in the room, or creating moments that encourage connection and emotion. When couples prioritize the experience and not just the aesthetics, it transforms a wedding from something beautiful into something unforgettable.
