Sometimes it’s really difficult to put yourself out there for others to judge and compare. However, in the wedding industry (and many other industries) it simply has to be done. Clients are looking over several websites, magazine features, Instagram posts and client reviews to find their dream planner. If you are not showing what you are capable of, how are they ever going to know that their dream planner is right in front of them?
Stop Selling and Start Sharing
Anyone can have pretty pictures and an attractive website. Go beyond the norm and share a bit of yourself. Share some of your tips, a case scenario, reviews from couples, talk about how you overcame an issue and turned it around for your couple in a blog, offer words of wisdom and snippets of advice on social media, share why you got into the wedding business, what services you offer and why. You might feel like you are giving information away for free, but what you are really doing is providing expertise and guidance. You are setting yourself up as an industry expert, as well as showing that you know what you are talking about. Therefore, you are much more apt to have a following and actually get hired because of it.
Value Your Services
Would you hire you? Why? When you describe your services on your website or at client meetings, do they sound like everyone else’s, or do you offer something beyond the norm? What is it that you do differently? Can you express this clearly and confidently? This is very difficult for a lot of people. Do you know someone that is a great writer that knows you and your style? Ask them for help.
Did you know that there are companies all over the world that work with you to reword your website and content? These are ghostwriters. They can change ordinary wording into a descriptive masterpiece that still represents you and your brand, honestly. They will evaluate what your skills are, how you differ from others, and how to come across them in a more professional and polished way. Like any company, they all have their own style and way of doing things. Some are going to be sassy and sarcastic, others are going to be bold and colourful, while others may be funny and sweet. You need to find the right fit for you. Do your research.
Use Comparison to Grow
While it’s great to see what others are doing, you can’t let it consume you and discourage you. Instead, use it to inspire you, and give you confidence in your own skills and accomplishments. See what others are sharing in their social media outlets, blogs and websites. Read their “About Me” pages and you will see that there are things that stand out to you, and think about how you can shake up your bio that will make you sound more interesting, too.
