When Danielle first came to me about planning this event, I was so EXCITED! I had planned events before but never for a company or for professional reasons, I just did birthdays, and baby showers. I knew that because I had limited experience with events, I had to do my utmost best to assure that this event would be a success.
On April 15th of 1936, Eglinton Grand opened its doors as a theatre showcasing plays, and movies to the general public of Toronto. Eglinton Grand was in business from 1936 until 2001. In 2002 it sadly closed its doors as a theatre for good. In 2003, Dynamic Hospitality & Entertainment Group announced it had acquired the lease for Eglinton Theatre and had plans to bring it back to its original 1930’s art-deco grandeur, and transform it into a special events venue. Today The Eglinton Grand host Wedding Ceremonies and Receptions, Social,Corporate Events, Gala’s, and many more services.
On Wednesday November 23rd 2011 myself along with Danielle, Tracey, Kim, and WPIC Alumni had the pleasure of enjoying a lavish networking and entertainment evening put on by WPIC, hosted by The Eglinton Grand. The itinerary for the evening included cocktails and hors d’oeurves, a tour of Eglinton Grand which was hosted by Darren Bryant and his team. Presentations were made from The Eglinton Grand and Kelly Spinelli from Laura Kelly Wedding Design who as a team with Laura Atentido are appear on Rich Bride, Poor Bride and Rich Groom, Poor Groom on Slice Network!
The food served was delicious! There were Alaskan crab cakes, pulled pork sliders, chicken skewers, poutine topped with beef short rib and polenta rounds.
All attendees got to relax, meet new Alumni and catch up with old friends, and indulge in delicious appetizers. The cocktail area is just above the reception area with its own bar, lounge tables & chairs and has a red curtain that reveals the reception area. To wrap up the cocktail hour, Darren and his team did a grand reveal of the reception area. It was amazing!! Everyone was amazing and left with an “OMG!” expression.
We started our tour in the cocktail louge. The Eglinton Grand explained that this is usually where guests are sent before the reception. The way the curtains are set up, no one can see the reception room at all! We proceeded to the main lobby and staircase. The TV’s in the lobby can be used to show slideshows or anything a couple wants to showcase! The bridal suite is located in the lobby area with a private bathroom and powder room. We were shown the ceremony room which has its own separate entrance for guests, so they don’t have to walk through the reception area. The ceremony room is just above the reception area and can be decorated according to any wedding theme! We concluded the tour in the reception area. The reception area has a stage which can be used for speakers or head table set up. The best part of this room is the movie screen. Many couples choose to play an old movie on the screen during the reception. This can also be used for a bride and groom’s slide show! The reception room also still boasts large art deco statues which are from the 1930’s decor.
The Eglinton Grand gave their presentation on the property, what they have to offer and what can be done with the space for a wedding or any event. Kelly Spinelli spoke with great humour and personality; it was great to watch her. Kelly Spoke about how her and Laura were casted to appear on Rich Bride Poor Bride, their experience with the show and the pros and cons of being a Reality TV Wedding Planner. It was interesting to learn about all the work that go into the making of a show.
Danielle, Tracey, Kim, and I would like to thank all who came out to the event. It was nice seeing familiar faces, catching up with everyone, and enjoying the evening. A special thanks to Eglinton Grand for hosting a spectacular event, thank you for your generosity and amazing hospitality, Zoki Florals for the centerpiece. Lastly a special thanks to Kelly Spinelli, your presentation was awesome, and to Decor with Grandeur, the dà©cor on the head table was amazing!
