As Wedding Planners we love to talk about our Emergency Kits, our organizational skills, our perfect timelines, and the most comfortable shoes for spending 14 hours on your feet. What planners don’t talk about is just as important as all of the other tools mentioned: fitness.
I’m not talking about weight or physique, that’s not something I can preach about, but as someone who currently runs 3kms 3 times per week, I can talk about the need for fitness.
When teaching the WPIC Wedding Planner Certification classes, we often equate the wedding day to running a marathon. If you are doing your job, it truly is 12-14 hours of constant running, moving, stretching, squatting, carrying, and hustling. You are often required to carry heavy boxes of vases and favours, or a bunch of linens, often up stairs, and in order to not be a huffing, puffing and sweaty mess, you need to be physically fit.
Fitness not only helps you with the physical aspects of Wedding Planning, but studies have shown over and over that fitness makes your mind clearer and sharper. A tool that is definitely needed for quick-thinking and problem-solving on the wedding day.
So find the physical activity that you enjoy and do it at least three times per week. Get out of your home office and walk for an hour, head to the gym for a great mental break, join a running club, join a community dance class, go swimming, whatever gets you going, just start. It will make you an even better Wedding Planner 😉
