You CAN be a luxury wedding planner while still showing the planet some much needed love. These often-conflicting concepts can be balanced in your business branding, planning style and vendor recommendation list. Even if environmentalism doesn’t interest you, you can still make some small changes to advocate for less waste in the events industry.
5 Key Transitions to Implement
- 1) Start providing your clients with carbon offsetting resources to offset their wedding day in your final check in meeting
- 2) Stop recommending florists who use floral foam
- 3) Switch to hemp paper, recycled cotton paper or make a pledge to only recommend companies that can offer post-consumer recycled paper products to your clients. This includes client cards, business cards and stationery.
- 4) If your clients choose to give favors, make low waste recommendations. There are many beautiful favours to consider that are plastic free. Favours can also serve a dual purpose as place cards: such as the marble coasters shown below.
- 5) Recommend like-minded vendors to your clients who have sustainability initiatives. It shows your clients that you care about your community, and it supports other eco-conscious vendors.
Making eco-conscious planning suggestions to your clients has them thinking about the environment, even if they don’t select that option! Some of the most luxurious stationery is eco conscious, but if your stationery artist doesn’t offer it then your clients would never know. Start conversations with your favourite vendors and bring up the topic of sustainable options; might it be recycled cotton paper to your calligrapher, more local ingredients to your caterer or the initiative not to use floral foam to your florist.
