Who needs a little positivity in their work lives? I’m pretty sure that we all do right about now. With all that is going on around us at this time, we might forget just how wonderful our job as wedding planners can be.
You can choose who you work with and who you don’t: Initial meetings are not only for the potential clients to see if you are a good fit, it is also for you to see if you can work with them. It goes both ways. If you don’t feel like your personalities mesh, then maybe you can suggest a better fit for someone in your network. Over time your marketing will naturally begin to attract the couples, budgets and styles that you are most comfortable with. What you put out will come back to you (think social media, your blog, and the overall look and feel of your company’s brand).
Being bossy and a type-A personality is a good thing: We are being hired to negotiate, schedule, arrange and plan weddings and events in a calm and timely manner. Our quick and rational thinking, coupled with our people-pleasing skills is invaluable. Our couples rely on us to get things done. It is not for the timid. Always remember to be kind, as working well with others is a must in this industry.
You choose what services you provide: Do you offer “Full Planning” only? Are “Month Of” services more your jam? Only you know what works best for you. Think about your financial goals and where you see yourself in the next five years.
You are your own boss: You make the decisions for your company. You decide the branding, policies and procedures and where your advertising budget goes. You decide how many weddings you can take on each year and who you have working for you as an independent contractor or employee.
You decide where your money goes: Are you going to invest in your website? Are you going to attend some BIG name conferences? Are you doing a rebrand? Or, are you taking more profit next year to go on a vacation-of-a-lifetime, or invest in a major purchase such a condo or house?
You get to be creative: No two weddings are the same, so your opinion and suggestions can be invaluable to your clients. All of those webinars, courses and conferences that you have attended will come in handy. New trends and products that your wedding pro friends have in their inventory are just waiting to be suggested.
Do you have any other points to add? We would love to hear your thoughts!
