Recently, a bride asked me, "What do you wear to try on Bridal gowns?"
Great question! First of all, a smile. Your attitude towards the day and the experience will go a long way. Honestly, it should be a great experience but it will get tiring as you might be trying on several gowns. Eat a good breakfast, stop for lunch and drink water thoughout the day. This will keep you hydrated and nourished and in a better mood.
Keep in mind that the bridal consultant is usually the one helping you in and out of your dress, so a pair of nice full-bottom panties and a strapless bra (white is best, but if you have black, that is ok too). Wear comfortable shoes and an outfit that is nice but easy to get off and on. Take shoes that would be similar to the type of shoe you would be wearing on your wedding day.
*Please don’t wear perfume or heavy make-up, especially lipstick. Remember other girls are trying on these dresses and the salon wants to have a positive experience for each and every bride.
Things to consider when trying your dress: Are you comfortable? Is anything digging in? Your dress won’t be as comfortable as your at home lounge wear, but it shouldn’t restrict your movement. Try sitting down. Some of the tighter fitting styles, especially mermaid styles might provide some difficultly when sitting. How does your train bustle after the ceremony?
If the salon allows you to take pictures, try and do so and make notes of what you liked and disliked as it will help you refresh your memory later.
Keep that budget in mind, but do have a little flexibility. If the dress of your dreams is $200 over your budget, don’t settle, buy it! There are other places to trim expenses. You should feel like a queen in your dress.
