70% of all couples get engaged between December & February and most engagements happen at Christmas. So this is the perfect time to look at Engagment Rings and which settings are the most popular, right now.
Choosing an Engagement Ring is a very important decision, your future wife will wear this ring for the rest of her life! There is no going back, or replacing it later on, the ring you propose with, will always be her engagement ring. It needs to be the right style, the right metal and most important the diamond needs to be big enough. 😉
Tips for finding the perfect ring:
~Listen to any hints your future bride may give you
~Look at the jewelery she already wears, what colour of metal is it? Is it simple, or ornate?
~Does she work with her hands or with children? You'll want the diamond inset, so she can wear it at work.
~Ask her friends, sister or mother (if they can keep quiet), what styles of rings she has talked about
~Borrow one of her rings to measure her ring size, (so she can wear and show off her ring right away)
Below are some of the most popular styles right now:
The Metal
The most popular metal for an engagment ring right now, is Platinum.
Platinum is the purest metal available for jewellery and is incredibly strong, it will last a lifetime and requires fewer repairs as it does not wear away, scratch or chip the way gold does. It is also much more expensive than gold or silver, since platinum is a rarer metal.
Gold is the second most popular metal for today's engagements rings. It comes in Rose, White and Yellow. 18K gold is a mixture of 75% gold and 25% alloy. All gold bands contain alloy to provide added strength, since gold is a soft material. 10K and 14K gold bands are stronger because they contain more alloy, but less gold. A gold band can chip and scratch and will undoubtedly require repair over its lifetime. It will more than likely lose its perfect circular shape and mold its shape to the wearer's finger.
The Diamond
The white, round diamond has pretty much always been the most popular engagement ring stone, and it still is. The only difference is, today's diamond has some friends 🙂
Most brides want a ring with side baguettes rather than just a solataire and when asked, most women want their ring to contain at least 1 carat of diamonds.
And men, just because you are proposing at Christmas, don't think you can skimp on a Christmas gift. 😉

I’m also a fan of brides and grooms shopping for the ring together, as just a little extra touch of togetherness on the event. And that way he’ll know for sure that she likes it!
