It’s the start to a whole new year, and I have been researching some trends to be expected in the wedding biz. One that I thought was rather fun was the incorporation of vintage style into all aspects of the wedding. This includes the bridal gown, accessories, cake, decorations etc. If you’re thinking The Great Gatsby – you’re on the right track.
This style has seeped into the engagement stage as well. More men are buying Art Deco inspired rings for their proposals. Emerald gems were popular when the first lady, Jacqueline Kennedy, flaunted her Van Cleef & Arpels 2.88 carat diamond and 2.84 emerald engagement ring with her iconic style in 1953. This throwback in time is 2013’s way of showing how traditionalism can be both upheld and experimented with in a fun, retro way that you don’t have to be afraid of.
Vintage style is a great way for more couples to personalize their special days. More thought and personality goes into pulling off the perfect amount of vintage style without it looking dated. During this process, couples have to put more effort into creating the wedding details. Decorations need more searching, and in many cases, when costs are needed to be cut, brides increasingly use the help of Pinterest to create their very own centerpieces, vintage headbands (instead of the traditional veil) and other party favours. This also helps them customize their wedding to suit their personalities.
One element that is predominant in the vintage style is lace! It has come back in full swing and is incorporated in most vintage designs. This including cakes, wedding dresses, shoes, table designs, invitation cards, accessories – just to name a few. So if you’re going for the “vintage style” wedding, add a bit of lace and you’ll be “in” with the wedding trend for the year. 🙂
