I’m Beth Husbands. Originally from Southampton in the UK, I’ve lived in Canada since the age of 13. For as long as I remember, I’ve always loved helping people and making them happy. I’m naturally chatty (sometimes to a fault), and after years of not knowing what career path to take, as soon as the idea of wedding planning came into mind, it made perfect sense. BMH Weddings & Events was founded in 2020 following the completion of my WPIC certification. Since then, I have worked in many aspects of the wedding industry including a Bridal Store as a Consultant, helping set up and execute a few tent weddings, and then receiving the experience that has shaped me into the planner I am today, and being a part of a wedding planning team at a well-known and respected winery in Kingsville for a couple of years. While also having the opportunity to be in multiple weddings, I have looked through the lens of many perspectives. With each of those different perspectives, I have learnt so much and created detailed planning packages reflecting on those wonderful experiences.
What’s your favourite part about working with couples during the wedding planning process?
I love getting to know couples during the wedding planning process. Not just professionally but also on a personal level. So when it comes to the wedding day, all of the pieces have come together and the couples get to see the final result of all their hard work. Their reaction of happiness, gratitude, and enjoying this big day with the people that they love, brings me so much joy. It makes me so thankful that I was able to help them in this chapter of their lives.
Windsor-Essex has such a unique blend of natural beauty and historic charm. What’s your favourite local venue or hidden gem to recommend to couples, and why?
It is so hard to pick just one because this area is full of so many different types of venues, with so many that I would still like to visit myself. But there are two venues that stand out to me, they are both wineries but very different from each other. Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery is a popular venue in Windsor-Essex for a reason. The property is beautiful with it being close to Lake Erie and the building has a rustic and romantic charm to it. There are lots of spots to take stunning photos on the property along with a great menu for couples to select from. The team there were also great to work and communicate with and that helped the wedding go by seamlessly.
On the other hand, there is Kingscoast Estate Winery. An entirely brand new venue which I had the pleasure of being a part of the team for the very first historic wedding. This property is the total opposite to anything in this area as it is a more modern, elegant, and classy style of winery. You can tell there was thought behind every single design of the new venue and it was done extremely well. You don’t really need much decor because it is such a stunning venue all on its own. Kingscoast is an all-inclusive venue so almost everything you need has already been figured out for the couple, so there is no need for them to stress about outsourcing everything with the great team assisting them throughout the process. It’s really nice to see something different brought to the area and I’m excited for the rest of Windsor-Essex to experience this venue for the Grand Opening happening soon.

How do you incorporate the region’s wineries, waterfronts, or cultural influences into your wedding designs to give couples a true Windsor-Essex experience?
Windsor-Essex is full of diverse venues and rich cultural influences. With each wedding being unique to the couple, I love finding ways to blend their personal story. Where they come from, who they are now – with the local setting. Whether it’s featuring wines from a local winery or using accent pieces that highlight a scenic waterfront view, we tie in the natural beauty of the region while honouring the couple’s multicultural traditions. Want to include a cultural dance before the dance floor opens? Absolutely. Looking to create a menu that reflects both families’ heritages? You’ve got it. Every detail brings out the best of what Windsor-Essex has to offer and creates a truly meaningful celebration.
What inspired you to start offering destination wedding planning services, and how did you take the leap into planning weddings abroad?
I’ve always had a love for travel. Even before I knew I wanted to plan weddings. I was fortunate to travel frequently growing up, which led me to study Tourism and Travel in college. For a while, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to focus my planning career, but blending what I learned in college with my training from the WPIC programs felt like the right direction.
It took some time to figure out exactly where I wanted to specialize. Then one day, while visiting a friend in England, we were talking about the future and the conversation turned to Bermuda, where her family is from and a place we had visited together back in 2017. I realized how much I missed it and how it had always stayed with me. That moment made something click. I wanted to specialize in a destination that felt different and meaningful…somewhere that wasn’t already saturated in my local market. Bermuda, with its vibrant culture and stunning natural beauty, felt like the perfect fit. With my personal connections there and the emotional pull I’ve always felt toward the island, I saw an opportunity to both stand out and reconnect with a place that brought me so much joy. So a few months later, I got on a plane to tour some venues, meet vendors and do some research on the country I’ve waited to return to. My goal now is to help Canadian couples discover the hidden beauty of Bermuda and experience its magic the way I did.
Destination weddings can come with unique challenges. What’s one memorable hurdle you’ve overcome for a couple, and what did you learn from it?
At this time, I have only planned from a far with Destination Weddings and not had the opportunity to be on site. I’m still in the process of solidifying and promoting my new Bermuda packages. But what I have learnt so far from those few weddings is how important communication and relationships truly are especially when it comes to arranging details in a whole another country. Bumps in the road seem to arise more with travel so having that connection with the vendors in that other country is a must. There is a lot of hard work and trust put into it from both sides, so getting to know your vendors, especially if you can in person will make such a difference to the way Destination Weddings are planned and executed.
Thank you for sharing your heart with us, Bethanie! We love seeing you grow!
