Two weeks ago we held our very 1st WPIC Wedding and Event Design Certification Course. We have been wanting to add this to our course curriculum for approximately eight years, and the timing was right for 2019.
The course was held at the fabulous Bright Lights in Uptown Toronto. It was the perfect space for our attendees to move freely throughout for classroom style learning which took place in the indoor greenhouse (available 365 days a year), the main area was for our hands-on draping portion, and our lunch and break area was situated in front of the 30 foot glass bar. The venue is close to the subway, and has lots of parking as well.
*Shout out to the amazing Laura, who put up with us all weekend 🙂
The WPIC office crew (Danielle, Cassandra and myself) were there on top of our twenty attendees, to cheer on Paras Mehta of Paras Events, who is our amazing Wedding & Event Design facilitator. We learned about colour theory and harmonies, the top 10 steps to creating an effective event design, lighting, floor plan designs, lighting techniques, etc.
Mandy of Khazana Creations Inc shared her incredible draping skills and taught us various draping techniques (as well as tips/tricks and things to avoid). We had four stations to work with so each person was able to try out their draping skills in a small group of five.
The next day was all business! Pricing strategies, creating a business plan, design proposals, initial consultations, contracts and event administrative checklists.
Trying our hand at sketching rounded out the second afternoon as we learned several techniques to use in our client design meetings to express our ideas visually on paper.
Jowel Villa of Jolvi Photography joined us on Sunday afternoon to photograph some of the highlights.
We had such a wonderful group and are so thankful to everyone who helped make this course come to fruition.
