Erin Bosak, WPICC of Erin Bosak Events was interviewed by: WPIC Intern, Danielle Gallowitz
Stationery is a new direction you’re taking the business, what was the reasoning behind branching into this market and explain why stationery vendors are vital to a wedding or event?
For a few years, I have been approached to assist with the design and printing of stationery items for friends and clients, and as my wedding planning business grew, it was a natural progression. The design of wedding stationery allows the couple to gracefully ensure their guests are comfortable and appropriately dressed for the formality of the wedding and venue, while also allowing the couple to express their personal style. Receiving a formal invitation makes guests feel important, and also provides keepsake mementos for friends and family.
Your detailed step-by-step process is outlined on your website erinbosak.com, explain how client feedback influences design and style of stationery
Client feedback is the most important feedback I can receive, and I welcome it always. A wedding is probably the most lavish party a couple will invite their closest friends and family to, and the utmost importance to me is that they love their stationery, from the font on the mailing envelope to the final layout of the thank you cards. As a lot of clients are unsure of precisely what they are looking for with respect to their stationery, the work I have done for previous clients is a great starting point, along with inspiration photos, fabric swatches, and ideas.
Using a variety of typography, colour and monograms, you personalize your stationery to fit the needs to clients, where do you draw inspiration and style from?
My clients are the main source of inspiration, and I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with wonderfully creative couples. Occasionally, a bride and groom will rely on my feedback based on one or two specific elements, be it a flower, fabric swatch, or passage from a meaningful reading. Personally, I draw inspiration from everything around me; the sky on a cloudy day, a sunset while on vacation, my favourite pair of shoes, a recent conversation, or even the small vessels I use for salt and pepper at family dinners.
What is the importance of continuing themeing from invitation to the final goodnight and how do you assist clients in doing this?
The Save the Date or Invitation is the first glimpse a guest will have of the wedding, so consistency of themeing is high on the priority list for me. I endeavour to meet the couple in person prior to having them completing an extensive questionnaire which allows me to better understand the couple’s relationship, the feel of their wedding, and the style of invitation they prefer. Common elements such as paper, pattern, fonts, or color, or a combination of all of the above, ties everything together. A guest at a wedding should walk into a wedding ceremony or reception and
recognize elements on the ceremony or reception pieces from the formal invitation.
As a supplier, what do you feel is often forgotten when ordering custom stationery?
As most clients are ordering custom wedding stationery for the first time, they are frequently unfamiliar with the options available to them, many of which can enhance the guests’ experience. The details can be overwhelming, and part of my role is to guide clients through the process. For example, a pew card inserted into the invitation of the Bride’s grandmother will ensure she is escorted to her seat of honour at the ceremony, and an at home card will notify guests of the wedding of the bride’s decision to assume her husband’s surname, their new address, and when they will be available to receive guests following their return from the honeymoon.
What is your vision for the future of Erin Bosak Events?
I am thrilled with the direction my business has taken over the past few years, and am, for the time being, happy to focus on weddings and stationery. To that end, I’m confident other exciting opportunities will present themselves, which I’ll readily welcome provided they are a good fit.
