We just received an email from someone asking us to promote their Wedding Coaching business to the members of WPICAlumni, our association of 4000 Certified Wedding Planners.
This email came from the person’s personal gmail account, with no links to a website, and no proof of the credentials they were claiming whatsoever. They truly expected we would pass along their email to our network of certified, trained wedding planners, so they could make money off them. We kindly informed this individual that we would not be passing along their information since they did not even believe in themselves enough to have a website or even a business email address.
Is this what you are doing with your own business? Are you representing yourself in a professional manner or are you just hoping someone will give you a chance?
If you do not have the bare minimum of:
- a professional website,
- a dedicated domain name,
- a registered business and professional business cards,
you are not in business.
Now if you do have the bare minimum of the above, you are not finished. Real professionals realize they need to work their business. Every. Single. Day.
They have:
- A business Facebook page and a Twitter account (and they work them).
- Photos of weddings they have worked on.
- They seek out media opportunities.
- They advertise their businesses online, at bridal shows and in wedding magazines.
- They network with other wedding professionals.
- They constantly consume industry-related media and materials.
- They never stop learning and attend industry conferences.
You know what else they have? Clients.
So, are you REALLY in business?
