The wedding industry grabbed their pitchforks this week when Wedding Planner, Sandy Malone, wrote an article for Brides.com stating that certain vendors needn’t be fed at weddings. These included photographers, wedding planners, bands and DJs.
Umm, what??
Here is a link to the archived article that has since been removed from Brides.com (thankfully):

Like we tell our students in every class, ANY vendor that is expected to stay through the reception, needs to be fed. This includes: Wedding Planners, DJs, Band, Videographers, Photographers and any assistants that are working the reception.
Truly, this should not even be a discussion, but rather, a matter of common sense. Most of these vendors are working 6-14 hours at the wedding, do you really want them to leave to go grab something to eat, or do you want them to be sustained and have the energy to properly preform their duties at the wedding? Most caterers or venues offer a “Vendor Meal” option, usually it is the same meal that the guests are getting, minus the alcohol package (wedding professionals shouldn’t be drinking while working anyway!) Even if there isn’t a reduced meal option, feed your vendors!! 😉

Well said, Danielle! I tell my couples that this small act of kindness is not overlooked by the vendors! Most of your vendors are so happy to go above and beyond on your wedding day, so feeding them is not unreasonable :).

A little bit of kindness goes a long way!

Yeah I remember this article. From a photographer’s perspective the dinner is pretty much the only meal we will have on a wedding day, which is usually 10-12 hours of constants running for us. To have a meal for you is very kind gesture and much appreciated.
