Thank you to WPIC alumni, Jyoti Saini and Sandeep Gill of SJ Soirée for sending us this wonderful description of G and K’s wedding!
You’re never too old to dream about fairy tales, especially when it comes to your wedding day. The nostalgic memories, feelings of excitement and the occasional tears are all associated with dreaming of that perfect day with your significant other.
Although we may have a lot more responsibilities than when we were younger, we all still have a special place in our hearts for the magic we saw unfold on screen. There is one fairy tale in particular that showcases a powerful universal theme; Beauty & the Beast. The story of falling in love with someone who is beautiful on the inside is a tale that resonates with many people.
From a wedding we produced this past summer, here are 5 modern ways on how you can bring back the nostalgia, sparkle some magic and become the Beast & Belle you’ve always dreamed of:
1. Smell Fresh, Crimson Roses
“If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, then he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.”
What’s a Beauty & the Beast inspired wedding without an enchanted rose? Roses symbolize love, beauty and courage and create a romantic ambiance for your decor. Crimson roses were utilized to truly bring out richness and set the stage for an evening of celebrating love. Lots of greenery with peach roses and hydrangeas were added for a more modern, minimalistic approach. Continuing to follow the theme, a gold brass antique was used to hold the floral arrangements together for the low centrepieces.
Tip: Don’t forget to match your ballroom decor to your lobby decor for continuity!
2. Shine with Candelabras
“All I know is…I will eventually melt away to nothing. I only hope there’s something left of me if the master ever breaks the spell.” – Lumière
You can’t forget about suave, Lumière. Just like his personality, candelabras bring charm, sophistication and romance to a wedding. Options for choosing the perfect candelabra are quite endless; you can choose from various metals to different candle heights and choose to also incorporate floral arrangements. Candelabras are typically used as centrepieces, however for this wedding, candelabras were hung alongside the backdrop to bring warmth and dimension to the stage.
3. Soar with Music
“I’ll wear lipstick and rouge and I won’t be so huge. Why, I’ll easily fit through that door. I’ll exude savior-faire, I’ll wear gowns, I’ll have hair. It’s my prayer to be human again.” – Madame Garderobe (The Wardrobe)
This fairy tale wedding wouldn’t be complete without a talented musician just like opera singer, Madame Garderobe from Beauty & the Beast. For cocktail hour, live entertainer Elena Thompson performed music on an elegant harp and electric violin. Sticking to the modern theme, she talentedly played current songs from the top charts. To top it all off, Elena also sang beautiful melodies.
4. Indulge in Romantic Dessert
“If she doesn’t eat with me, then she doesn’t eat at all!” – Beast
A great way to showcase any theme for your special day is through cake. How is this cake for a fairy tale wedding? Just look at the details – there’s even a hanging chandelier! A wedding cake truly brings together the decor vision and this cake was able to represent the Beauty & the Beast theme beautifully. The end result: a grand 6-tiered cake with flavours of Caramel Vanilla Skor and White Chocolate Raspberry. Not only did it look delicious, it also tasted absolutely delicious.
5. Brew Evening Tea
“How do you like your tea? Hot enough or boiling?” – Mrs. Potts
Last but not least, you can’t forget about the most-loved characters from this fairy tale: Mrs. Potts and her son, Chip. For this wedding, a tea station was open throughout the entire reception for guests to enjoy. It also made a great pairing with the cake. A vintage teacup set representing the beloved characters was also displayed on the receiving table to enhance the theme. You can really incorporate the tea element from this fairy tale in a number of ways: serving tea, displaying teacups, and even giving out teacups as wedding favours. Or take it one sip further with an espresso bar which offers a variety of options as seen below!
