A Summertime colour palette of lilac and lavender compliment ivory furnishings and metallic gold décor details, that hint at art deco nuances. Gowns feature from high end designers Nicole Spose and Maggie Sottero as a free-spirited bride and groom frolic through a field and dine on a high tea that is to die for.
Shot in an alluring countryside lavender field, this wedding shoot is the epitome of boho-luxe. We sit down with chief stylist and creative director of luxury stationery company, Adorn Invitations to find out just how this dreamy day came together.
Finding the Spark – The Inspiration Process
“With over ten creative minds coming together to craft this shoot – we all had one key objective at the heart of this project, to create a style and day that was unique and easily accessible to any type of bride.
Can you believe that this shoot was initially meant to be a dark, brooding forest themed editorial with an alternative bride? Oxblood was replaced with lilac and our tatted up raven haired gypsy bride was replaced with Jasmine, a carefree, spirited girl who encompasses the innocence of love.
As I sought out inspirational motifs in artworks, editorials and even writings – the theme naturally evolved. Scrolling through my online mood board, you can actually see the process develop. The brooding theme organically developed into a more ethereal, spirit like aesthetic and then slowly into something more romantic.
We wanted to create a theme that hasn’t really been done before. Yes, we wanted to incorporate bohemian and Moroccan influences however we didn’t want to limit the aesthetic to a purely Boho look. So, we looked at incorporating romantic and whimsical nuances.”
Bringing the Dream to Life
Décor and Details
“The mascot and personification of our theme is no doubt our gorgeous bespoke cow skull centerpiece. He was actually a motif that transcended from our initial theme, however we bedazzled him with pearls, crystals and lace to make him more accessible to our current aesthetic. We hoped that by embellishing him with more feminine, romantic details, that brides could find inspiration and find the courage to include such an eccentric piece in their own wedding.
Our key focus when designing our setups and tablescapes were to find décor pieces that balanced our boho undertones with more modern, romantic details. It was so important to find a harmony between the themes and I think we achieved just that!
Wild flowers and lush greenery were used to portray an organic chaotic feeling, and we included blush and lilac colored roses for a more whimsical tone. We also situated geometric and art deco inspired vases and metal hardware around the indoor tablescape to add some structure and simplicity.
Gold was a fundamental shade that we used throughout the entire shoot to tie in details. Gold Moroccan ottomans were used outdoors and lavish gold cutlery and candle holders contrasted against our earthy indoor setup.
We also custom created several invitation designs for this photoshoot. Our star piece was a stunning gold foiled laser cut invitation with a wax seal and satin ribbon encasing. Though the day was quite informal, we wanted our ‘guests’ to be excited and enticed for the special lavish ‘wedding.’
However, my favorite detailing from the day, were the dozens of semi-precious stones and crystals that were strewn around the tables. We sourced these stunning amethyst clear and rose quartz crystals from a local supplier and complimented them with small succulents, a fundamental detail in any Boho wedding!
The Dining
“Towers of gold flaked macaroons in lilac and lavender, summer berry tarts, lemon slices… these were only a few of the treats that our fantastic catering put together! Our purpose for the outdoor setting was so show brides different ways they can fashion their reception. Who wouldn’t adore a high tea afternoon reception in a Spring time lavender field?
For the décor – we sourced a combination of rugs and cushions in our lavender colour palette and broke them up with ivory and gold. We found an old timber table which was a beautifully rustic piece amongst the lavish furnishings.
As the sun began to set, we also put together a magical lighting setup. Of course, guests will want to continue partying into the night, so by hanging baubles, candles and vases onto a tree – you’ll be able to celebrate under an enchanting scene.
Getting the Look
“Jasmine wore three gorgeous gowns by designers Maggie Sottero and Nicole Spose. A lo-fi chiffon gown was our key piece as she frolicked through the lavender field, and a spaghetti strapped fitted lace gown was worn during our indoor shooting.
Rosy metallic were used throughout the makeup and skin was kept dewy, fresh and clean. Hair was loosely knotted and paired with a bespoke flower crown.”
The End Result
“After months of prep work and hours of shooting into the night, the team was absolutely smitten with the final images. Our vision was captured perfectly! Vivid purples and golds stand out beautifully and our objective of harmonizing an eccentric bohemian vision with modern and accessible details was perfectly achieved.”
