Everyone strives to be the best when it comes to wedding planning. Keeping your clients happy while reaching perfection is an art and takes a considerable amount of effort. Here are a few tips as a wedding planner to be sure you’re doing everything you can to leave your clients not only satisfied but raving about you and your services!
#1: Communicate Effectively
As a wedding planner it is important to make sure your couple feel comfortable and as in control as you are. It is their day, so be sure to communicate effectively what the two envision for their dream day. Be sure that the couple has also gone over and agreed on basics like what budget they are working with.
Feel free to set up check-ins that occur more frequently as the wedding day approaches. This will prevent any slips with possible last minute changes, and give plenty of opportunities for your clients to voice their opinions.
#2: Be Sure to Stay Organized
To be successful at anything in life you need to be organized. Take the time to create a binder filled with a calendar, vendors’ contact information, and notes to keep everything in order and on track for your client. You do not want to mix up clients or information leaving you at fault, so be sure to use tabs to separate everything correctly!
Also utilize your smartphone! With technology today it is hard to be disorganized. Use your calendar app to map out your week. Set reminders to pop up hours or days in advance to prepare for meetings and work related events. You can even set alarms for major details you can’t forget.
#3: Know When to Step In
We all know how stressful the wedding planning process can be, especially for the bride. Being able to recognize when a bride is overwhelmed is a skill every wedding planner needs. Take the reigns and offer your input when indecisiveness invades.
If you have a couple that can’t seem to agree, or in-laws and family that can’t get on board with the wedding venue ideas, take the extra time to research and offer new and fresh ideas that can be a happy medium.
#4: Jump in With Special Touches
The wedding planner always knows best when it comes to great vendors. You already know who is awesome to work with and who never to book again. This in combination of knowing your clients’ personalities and interests is a recipe for success. Use your insight to help out pick out fitting touches for your client.
For example, if you know the couple is into vintage themes, find a rustic venue and musicians that play oldies or classics. You can even give advice on where to honeymoon so they can book in advance. If the couple likes to relax and stay low key on vacation, a luxury honeymoon cruise might be the perfect match for them so they can sunbathe on deck in between exploring tropical islands. If you are working with a creative couple focused on giving back you could suggest an alternative honeymoon like a mission trip overseas.
If you can connect with your clients and give them informed advice, you’re sure to excel as a wedding planner. Recognize that each couple is unique and requires special attention is the right mindset to keep throughout this process. Coupled with these tips you’re on your way to success!
