Romance, a little surprise, and meaningful moments at Hotel William Gray, Old Montreal
There’s a certain magic to Old Montreal. The cobblestone streets, historic stone facades, and European atmosphere make it feel as though the city was made for love stories. For this styled shoot at the beautiful Hotel William Gray, we wanted to capture that old-world charm while bringing in fresh ideas that make a wedding feel personal, heartfelt, and a little unexpected.
The hotel’s blend of historic character and contemporary luxury provided the perfect backdrop. But beyond the beautiful setting and thoughtful design, we wanted the ceremony itself to remind everyone that the most memorable weddings aren’t just about how everything looks. They’re about how people feel and the moments they share.
We incorporated two special touches to bring guests into the story. During the ring warming ceremony, the wedding rings were passed from guest to guest, giving each person a moment to hold them, make a wish, and send their love and good intentions to the couple before the rings were exchanged. It was a simple but meaningful way to include everyone in the promises being made, turning the rings into something that carried the love of the entire room.
Then came a little surprise. Before the ceremony, a pen was taped underneath two chairs. The unsuspecting guests who discovered a pen beneath their seats were chosen to serve as the couple’s witnesses for the signing of the marriage license. It was an unexpected way to involve guests, add a touch of fun, and create a memory they certainly weren’t anticipating when they sat down!
These personal details were at the heart of the concept. A wedding can be elegant and beautifully styled while still feeling relaxed, genuine, and full of personality. We love finding ways to move beyond simply asking guests to watch a ceremony and instead give them a meaningful role in it.
Seriously, how cute are these two?
Set against the timeless architecture of Hotel William Gray, this editorial celebrates the meeting of old and new, tradition and individuality, and the excitement of two people beginning their life together. Because beautiful weddings are lovely to look at, but the moments people remember, the wishes they make, and the stories they tell long after the day is over are what make them truly special.
