Meet Chrissy Kumornik, WPICC of CK & CO Events! Serving Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Burlington, London, and Niagara, Ontario. Chrissy has made waves in the wedding industry with her passion and expertise. This month, she’s celebrating an incredible milestone; CK & CO Events is ringing in five successful years of unforgettable weddings and exceptional service. What a remarkable way to kick off 2025! Congratulations, Chrissy!
My journey in the wedding and events planning world started with receiving a certificate in Event Management, as well as a certificate in Wedding Planning from The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada. From there, I worked in a variety of events including corporate, fundraising, public, galas, social, golf tournaments and of course, weddings. My ultimate goal was to always create my own business though, so when the timing was right, I did just that!
I am honoured to plan and coordinate every event that I am involved with. I love getting to know my clients and share their special day or help organize their important event. Whether you are planning a wedding, a corporate event or a social gathering, I want to bring you a stress free planning experience and an unforgettable event that your guests will be discussing for years.
When I am not planning events, you can find me taking my dog for a hike, heading to the cottage with my husband or planning my next vacation.
1.Tell us about your wedding planning business. How did you start and when?
I started my business officially in January of 2020 (yup, just in time for COVID – lol!) However, I had been working in the industry since 2016. My goal since I was young was to always work in the wedding industry and to one day own my own business. I always loved planning events and have always been very organized and detail oriented. So event planning just fit my skill set naturally. I was working as a full time event planner for a non profit when I decided to officially start my business. I thought I may get a few weddings to start and see where it took me, but only 2 years later I was able to quit my full time job! I haven’t looked back since and I couldn’t be happier.
2. What have you learned over the years that has helped you improve as a planner?
I believe it’s incredibly important to always be learning. If you think you know everything, then you’ll never evolve. I’m always learning from other business owners to see where my weaknesses lie and where I can improve my business. Something that has helped me improve as a planner is to always stay calm, be professional and have a back up plan! Another thing I try to remind myself is to stay in the moment. As a planner, I am always thinking ahead of what’s next on the itinerary, but I have to remind myself to stay in the moment and see opportunities to improve my client’s day during every moment.
3. Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
My goal is to continue my wedding planning business, but continue to grow and evolve each other to ensure I am offering my clients the best service possible. Perhaps, in five years, I will also be offering Destination Wedding planning!
4. Tell us some of your favourite planning moments with examples.
I’ve been privileged to be a part of so many people’s intimate moments and the most special day of their lives. It truly is such an honour. Being able to witness the small moments is always what sits with me. Watching a new step father have a special dance with his new step daughter. The soft sigh and smile from the couple while their witnesses are signing the marriage license – a “we did it” moment. A hug from a favourite vendor that I haven’t seen in a while. Too many favourite memories to count!
Although one of my first and favourites was surprisingly during COVID. We had to get creative with weddings because of all of the restrictions. As well, it was my first year of business and I was very open to trying new things. There were lots of Pop Up weddings happening so I decided to try my own. I only ended up having 1 couple sign up for the day, but we still went forward with it. There was a team of myself, an officiant, a photographer and a florist. The couple eloped just the two of them and I was able to be one of their witnesses. It was a very special moment to be a part of.
Here’s to even more success in 2025, congratulations, Chrissy!
