A Wedding Day Guide for Planners to Share with Clients
~10 Tips for a Smooth Wedding Day~
As veterans in the wedding industry, we often get asked how to execute a seamless wedding day. Everyone wants their wedding day to feel easy, breezy, and filled with special memories that last a lifetime.
While every wedding day itinerary is unique, these 10 expert tips from our personal wedding experience can be shared with any client. We’re certain that brides, grooms, vendors and guests will soon be thanking you for the helpful wedding day checklist.
1. Stay Hydrated & Fed
The wedding day usually begins bright and early with hair, makeup, and maybe a mimosa or two! A great rule of thumb is to keep bottles of water handy and available for the wedding party at all times. This encourages sipping throughout the day and evening to prevent dehydration. Adding water and snacks to a wedding day emergency kit is always a great idea to help everyone feel their best.
2. Buffer Schedules Generously
The truth is, most weddings run behind schedule. It’s wise to advise couples that they should include buffer time when developing their wedding day timeline. Don’t forget to account for traffic, tardy guests, dinner service delays, and more. Best case scenario, there will be extra time to relax and enjoy the experience if everything goes as planned.
3. Prepare your Attire in Advance
Want to keep those gorgeous ‘guest of honour’ outfits looking crisp? We recommend steaming dresses and suits the week before the wedding, leaving them hanging until the big day. This not only saves headaches on the wedding day but allows for extra time in case anything goes wrong. Cleaning rings a few days before the wedding day is another great tip to ensure they are extra sparkly for photographs.
4. Shoe Solutions
There is nothing worse than being on your feet all day in a pair of brand-new shoes. Consider advising your brides and grooms to wear their wedding shoes around the house in an effort to break them in prior to the wedding. Many also pack a comfortable pair of shoes to wear behind the scenes or later in the night.
5. Pass Along your Digits
Many brides and grooms have their phones off on their wedding day. As a result, it’s always smart to share emergency contacts with vendors in the event they need them. You wouldn’t believe how many times we’ve seen this come in handy for lost limo drivers.
6. Digital Detox During the Ceremony
A ringing cell phone or audible message alert can ruin a once-in- a-lifetime exchange of vows. Encourage your couples to tell their guests that phones are to be silenced during the ceremony. Let’s keep those beautiful “I Do’s” uninterrupted.
7. Plan For Some Extra Nourishment
Ask the caterer to set aside extra food for last-minute guests and vendor add-ons. Wedding couples tend to be pulled in a number of directions on their wedding day and are only able to sneak in a few bites of dinner. Caterers will happily put together a to-go box of food for the newlyweds to enjoy at the end of the night.
8. Trust Your Entertainment Vendors
Most couples carefully hand-select their wedding vendors and chose entertainment professionals based on who they, themselves, truly enjoy. If entrusted to take the lead and given creative freedom, these experts deliver something far greater than what anyone else could have in mind. Encourage the bride and groom to relinquish control and avoid micromanaging so that they can enjoy their day fully and be pleasantly surprised.
9. Make Each Other A Priority
A sweet gesture that goes a long way is to plan a time for the couple to be alone at their wedding. After all, the day is all about them and their love for each other! It likely won’t be long, but a short moment of quality time makes a world of difference.
10. Be Present
Weddings are almost always a beautiful whirlwind; they fly by in the blink of an eye and are easy to get swept up in. Encourage the guests of honour to be present for their experience by reminding them what the day is truly about. Encourage the wedding couple to set aside one minute every hour to breathe, connect with each other, and truly savour the celebration of their love!
