Thanks so much to Tricia Bachewich Events for this styled shoot submission. We were beyond excited to see so many behind-the-scenes working photos as well as all of the editorial images. These show some of the hard work that goes into creating magic in a styled shoot. It’s definitely not an easy task.
From the Planner, Tricia Bachewich, WPICC of Tricia Bachewich Events:
This modern styled shoot was strongly inspired by the need to host smaller, intimate gatherings in a fun & minimalist setting. In Manitoba, we have something called the wedding social, and unfortunately, most of the couples in 2020 weren’t able to host one, which means we were working with smaller budgets, but also smaller guest lists. This shoot was designed to show that you can design a small wedding with a big impact!
The colour palette was chosen to be a little bit more crowd-pleasing. I think brides & grooms are being bombarded with the Pantone colours and what’s trending right now (terra cotta’s and burnt orange colours) but this was a welcomed, neutral palette that allowed brides/grooms to really envision themselves at this styled shoot.
We wanted to evoke feelings of relatability and normalcy. 2020 was a year of questions and what-ifs and ever-changing restrictions. We truly wanted couples to look at this, feel at ease and know-how they could incorporate the elements into their design.
Not one, but two ceiling treatments! This shoot incorporated overhead ceiling installations that are not common at all in our Winnipeg market.
Some of the challenges that we faced were hanging the installations, without hanging from the exposed water lines in the building. It is a very old building in the downtown exchange district full of character, and we needed to find ways to work around that. They also didn’t have an elevator on-site so we carried everything (furniture and all) up the stairs. These were a few of the challenges we faced, in addition to the ever-changing COVID restrictions in place at the time.
We selected the Cloakroom Wellness Center as the venue because it is a second story historical building with floor to ceiling windows. There are original hardwood floors and brickwork and very unique lounge furniture pieces in the space. They also just started hosting wedding ceremonies in the last year so we really wanted to showcase what was possible for them in their space since it is such a blank canvas, in a good way!
Tips for planners:
- When you are planning your styled shoot, be sure to select the vendors that you want to work with, and determine your design based on what they can provide you with. For example, if you really want silk flowers, choosing a florist who doesn’t offer silk would make it very difficult.
2. Schedule a site visit. Go to the venue prior to the shoot to take measurements and determine how you will be able to mount installations or deliver large pieces of furniture. Don’t leave anything to chance on the shoot date… and if applicable in your location, have a rain plan!
3. Make sure to choose vendors that you can rely on, and that will be just as excited about the shoot as you are. The outcome will be incredible!
