Anu & Abel’s Nigerian Wedding

We absolutely love sharing real weddings planned and coordinated by our WPIC alumni. Thank you Adeola Damie of Celebration Events Mgmt for this stunningly gorgeous and luxurious two-day wedding submission.

I counted not one, not two or three, but FIVE dress changes for the beautiful bride!

DAY 1 – African (Nigerian) Traditional Wedding Ceremony

The Cultural wedding was a fusion of two tribes from Nigeria, Abel is Delta while Anuoluwapo is Yoruba. A Delta-Yoruba Cultural Fusion. We represented both cultures in many different ways, by changing outfits multiple times to incorporate both tribes and ensuring a good mix of Music to suit all Cultures and the Canadian guests present. The Cultural theme was evident in the food selections and cultural outfits for the Couple, Bridal party and friends.

DAY 2 – The Ceremony and Reception

The white wedding had a fairytale wedding theme. Which was brought to life by the custom-built stage décor, themed stationeries such as the carriage table numbers, royal elements in the program/menu card duo and our beautiful bride Anu in a ball gown fit for a Princess.

Challenges Faced by the Planners:

Overall the planning and the wedding details and ceremonies itself was a memorable success; the couple their family & guests thoroughly had a good time. What they did not get to see or know however was that at 3.45 pm (2hrs before the White wedding Reception) was scheduled to begin; The Banquet Hall had not delivered the linens nor set up the tables. The Stage décor was a major production that had begun at 9 am and was completed. All our vendors were ready to produce a fabulous wedding However, the venue had an event the night before and somehow forgot to order the right linens and did not have the ballroom ready at a reasonable time. We were expected to set up for 400 guests which involved individual place settings, customized stationeries and favors. The venue manager kept saying the linens were on its way. I had never felt such despair at an event supplier as I did that day. My team and I began to prep the table stationeries and other items. The decorator had all 40 centrepieces and multiple candles prepared and ready to go. At approximately 4 pm with less than 2 hours to spare before the Couples’ room reveal the linens arrived. My team and I had to get to work, and help set up the entire ballroom in pristine detail. We managed to pull it off in time just before the arrival of the Bride and Groom. We were able to REVEAL the Ballroom at 5.45 pm. The Couple had no clue as to the hurdles we overcame to get the space ready. It was a beautiful reveal and they were in happy tears.

Couples’ advice to engaged couples: “Our advice is to plan ahead of time, save money as some unexpected details might creep up at your wedding. Good food is very important. Get multiple videographers and photographers.”
