Let’s start 2012 off on the right foot together. I really plan to work on some goals that I have set for my family, myself and my professional life. I have a list ready, and I know how to use it 🙂
I am sharing them with you, so I will be more apt to bring them to fruition.
(I have TEN on my list, but here are FOUR I will share):
1. Lose some of this extra weight that I have put on in the last few years…Yuck!
2.Work smarter, not harder, by making smart business choices. This involves listening to my gut, which is almost always right.
3. Spend more time with friends and family. I really miss doing this!
4. Implementing some ideas for WPIC that I have talked about for years.
Here are some ways to get us started:
1. You know that commercial where the stressed out people take a 5 minute kit-kat break? Well create your own, whether it is 5 minute, 10 minute or 1hr a day. Read a good book, go for a walk, have a glass of wine, play a game with your children, go to the gym, whatever it is that will make you escape reality for a little bit. Whenever my husband and I feel stressed out, we call the grandparents. We take a night or two for ourselves and sneak off to Niagara Falls to a nice hotel, good restaurant and enjoy the Casino. It is a small thing, but it really works. A movie and/or restaurant would be another idea on a smaller scale.
2. Think of a skill that you would like to improve on. Do something about it…Now! Take a course, buy a self-help book, get out and meet some new people at industry events through associations such as WPIC, ISES, MPI etc. Save up and attend a Conference that is related to your business goals. Take a cake decorating course, floral design, home staging course, etc. Whether it is networking, bookkeeping, learning about wines, food, wedding gown styles and designers, public speaking, negotiating skills, there are people and places that can help.
3. Invest in yourself! Invest in your business. Hire a web designer, place an ad in a magazine, have a booth in a Wedding Show. If you want couples to hire you and seek you out, then you need to be easy to find. No one is going to hire you if you haven’t made yourself and your company accessible. This site will give you a free test to check your SEO ranking.
4. Have a Website, Blog, Facebook and Twitter account for your business. Share your successes, learning curves, setbacks and accomplishments with your followers. It makes you human. They will be able to relate with you. Keep it clean and keep it professional. Be consistent with their upkeep. Remember that couples want to see what you write, who you follow and who follows you.
5. Get away from negative influences and people. Strive to be around people who are positive, have similar values and goals, and that make you feel happy and confident.
6. Think of five people who inspire you. What is it that you admire about them? How can you be more like them?
7. Do something nice for someone every day personally and professionally. It is as simple as holding a door for someone, telling someone you appreciate something they did, or saying thank you.
8. Have goals and dreams. Take a chance on your goals and dreams, and make them a reality.
Please share some of your goals (that you are willing to share publicly) below in the comment section.
Good luck!

Great article! It’s really good for all of us to remember to make our goals achievable and realistic! I’m sometimes challenged with trying to achieve all my goals at the same time – which isn’t much fun when it starts to feel overwhelming. For this year my focus is on creating greater awareness of Fresh Events and promoting the wonderful services that we offer. Although I’ve been doing this kind of work for over 30 years it is always a challenge to attract the right kind of clientele – and the right kind of marketing and advertising will help me do that. So that’s my ONE goal for 2012, and I feel like the other things will start to fall in place as I work on that. Have a great year!

Great article. This year one of my major resolution is to be positive and believe. For the last few years I have faced some challenges that totally did a number on my mind and outlook in life. This year I’m trying to turn it around. I now realize how the positive energies attract other positive things in your life.
I had my mind set on a career path change and 4 days into the new year and the positive attitude, I received a phone call for a telephone interview. It’s just a telephone interview but it’s one step closer to that goal and I will get that job! Next on my list is really establishing that business.
